Ronnie’s new album
Ronnie Findon our lead Alto Sax player has just recorded a new C.D. His wife Jeanette produced the album, consisting of favourite material he has performed over a career spanning in access of 60 years. On the album he sings, plays the clarinet, and all the saxophones. He is accompanied on the C.D. by just a piano, bass and drums.
“Ronnie has been a regular with Opus One since 1989 and has become an integral part of our show. He is such a joy to work with and a constant inspiration to us all. It is unbelievable that Ronnie is still working most days considering his 80 years of age, which I am sure he will not mind me telling you. When on the rare days he is not working, he will put in 4 hours of rehearsal which is dedication indeed” states Opus One Musical Director Ted Higgins.
As soon as we receive a copy we will review its contents and publish our finding on the website.
Website Redesign
The present website is about 7 years old and we plan to include more frequent information changes on the new site. More regular news updates and player profiles are also planned. This is also to coincide with the 25th anniversary of our formation. Also it is hoped that we will include an improved user-friendly band booking form. This should hopefully increase the number of hits and bookings we will receive.
Rob ‘slides’ into plum job
Rob Collinson our Bass Trombonist for the last 8 years performed at his last gig for Opus One at Capel Manor on the 7th July 2007. He has landed a job as Bass Trombone with the biggest orchestra in Japan and is to be based in Tokyo. Do not ask me to name the orchestra as it is not easily pronounced. He is due to take up his post during late August. “Rob the shirt” as he is known has said he is very excited about his new challenge but will miss his British friends and fellow musicians.
When we have appointed a new player to replace him, we will introduce him to you all via the website.
Anniversary Celebrations
It is hoped next year to perform a series of special concerts to celebrate our silver anniversary. But at this stage it is too early to give any specific information as it is still in the planning stage at the moment. It is proposed to hold the first event during May or June next year. Watch this space for further information.
