THE BEVERLEY SISTERS WIN AWARD

Postby Admin » Fri Apr 14, 2006 8:39 am

Announced in the new years honours list for 2006 the Beverley Sisters have been awarded the M.B.E. In our opinion here at Opus One this is very overdue and much deserved.

The Beverley Sisters are one of the longest running acts in show business having auditioned to work with the original Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1944. They in fact met the great man himself and did a radio broadcast on the B.B.C. overseas forces network. This radio channel was mainly devoted to sustaining the morale of our forces posted overseas.

In a career spanning well over sixty years they have worked with many of the big stars of show business including Danny Kaye and Nat King Cole during their 10 years based in the States. The daughters of The Beverley Sisters, Vicki and Babette (Joys daughters) and cousin Sasha ( Teddys daughter) also went into show business and were known as “The Foxes”

When I spoke to Babette who now makes up one third of Opus Ones Vocal Group “The Satin Dolls” she said that she was so excited for the mums and over the moon. She was hoping to accompany theme to Buckingham Palace to see them receive their awards. Babette is also the daughter of the Late Billy Wright (England Captain and Wolves footballer).

The Beverley Sisters have a special place in the Guinness Book of Records as the vocal group who have performed for longer than any other group in show business with no changes in personnel.
